What is ACAT?

Before moving into residential aged care, the level of care you need must be assessed. This assessment is conducted by your local ACAT (Aged Care Assessment Team), usually by a nurse, social worker, or other health care professional. The assessment outcome will formally outline, in writing, the care services you are eligible to receive.

The ACAT assessment is free of charge and can be conducted in the comfort of your own home, or at an ACAT office. It may take several weeks to book an assessment and receive the outcome, so it is recommended that you give yourself enough time to do so. To complete your ACAT assessment, visit myagedcare.gov.au or call 1800 200 422.
